Who are we

Well worth a stop and just a stone's throw away from Ljutomer. The unique Krapje Beekeeping Museum, part of the Tigeli Beekeeping features a much treasured part of the already rich local cultural heritage, namely the octagonal wooden beehive, the only one of the kind placed in nature, dating to the end of the 19th century. It is therefore on the Register of ethnological monuments in the cultural heritage of Maribor.

The pavilion contains 84 Naiser-type hives which have not been used for decades; so many a young beekeeper might not be acquainted with them. The apiary houses, honey dispensers, hand-held bee smokers, wax presses, over 300-year-old hives, various beekeeping literature, mushrooms for smoking bees, honeycomb models, and many other interesting beekeeping tools are to be admired there. Next to the museum you can take a stroll amid the most charming herb gardens planted with honey plants, and next to them a display featuring hives from different periods is created. There is also an apiary and a wall that teach the art and science of beekeeping to be admired, the latter being especially interesting for youngest visitors.

In December each year, they traditionally hold an exhibition of their own collection of mini houses made of honey. For all the above reasons and more, you are kindly invited to drop by this unique place to treat your eyes and palates to a sweet range of home-made honey delicacies and products.
